This icon of St. Nicholas was made in Greece. St. Nicholas was a white-bearded saint and was admired for his love of giving presents to poor children and families. In northern Europe and later in the U.S., Santa Claus became the name for St. Nicholas. He is the patron saint of children and sailors.
