Greek Artoklasia Recipe


  • 3 cups sugar
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 cups of water for boiling
  • 6 Tbs yeast
  • 6 cups warm water
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 3-4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup corn oil
  • 3 sticks unsalted butter


Take two cups of water and boil with cinnamon until 1 cup is left. Add another 6 cups warm water. Put in a mixing bowl and add yeast and then add salt. Add 3-4 cups flour. Put aside.

Place butter (softened), oil and sugar in a bowl and beat. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat for 5 minutes. Add this mixture to the flour mixture. Blend to make soft dough. Cover with towels and let rise. Approximately 1/2 to 1 hour cut in 5 pieces and put in round 10" baking pans. Let rise again in pans, then brush with egg yolks.

Bake dough at 325 for 40-45 minutes. Wash with water and sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on top.
